The Director of Nursing (DON), or Community Nurse Leader, upholds the LSS mission of “Older Adults Living Life to the Fullest” by providing clinical leadership to the care center to nurture and support a person-centered culture. The DON oversees all nursing functions that provide residents with daily nursing care in accordance with their assessment and choices and plan of care. The DON works closely with the nursing staff and the interdisciplinary team, to ensure regulatory compliance and provides teaching and role modeling of professional nursing practices to staff for quality clinical care.
Builds the clinical team and develops critical thinking, problem solving and an understanding of regulatory compliance.
Leads the development of department goals, on-going review of department policies and procedures, budgeting and financial management for assigned areas.
Oversees and ensures that the clinical operations are in compliance with federal, state and local regulations while honoring person-centered care.
Provides oversight to ensure adequate equipment and supplies are appropriate and available for the scope of services provided.
Promotes the highest level of care in terms of management of care plan practicing according to current standard of practice utilizing appropriate resources that include Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Maintains a safe, comfortable and functional environment by assessing potential hazards and implements practices to maintain optimum safety.
Participates in the LSS clinical leadership team in the development of organizational standards based on best practices and current standards of care. Implements standards at the community level.
Assists in the development, implementation and ongoing assessment of an Antibiotic Stewardship program in their Community.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Minimum of 5 years nursing experience with 2 years management experience. Current RN licensure in state of practice. B.S. in nursing or related field desired. Must be CPR certified upon hire or within 31 days of beginning employment with LSS. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and clinical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care. Strong desire to work in an environment that values person-centered care. Ability to lead staff and apply critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Lutheran Senior Services (LSS) requires drivers of licensed company vehicles and those using their own vehicles for business purposes have the appropriate driver’s license, insurance coverage, and meet the auto liability carrier’s driver’s criteria.

Is willing to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary. Is subject to exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B virus within guidelines of standard precautions. Appropriate ergonomic and personal safety equipment is provided as needed.
