Target Audience: Nursing Home Administrators, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Social Workers, Activity Directors, Occupational and Physical Therapist, Dietary, Diabetes Educators

CE Approved: Nursing Home Administrators (5 administrative hours)

Program: Registration 8:30 a.m., Program 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Lunch 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

Purpose: Preparing for annual survey is an ongoing process. The leadership team’s reaction to the survey process can determine how staff will respond to the survey process. This presentation will describe the current changes in the survey process from the surveyor’s perspective. Learn skills and tools that can be used to increase the knowledge level to help create a seamless survey response.


  • Review the long-term care survey process, including recent changes, beginning with the survey team’s offsite preparation.
  • Discuss what surveyors are doing while in your home and why.
  • Prepare yourself and train your staff for the survey process.
  • Outline steps and tools to assist in developing a survey book/plan.

Speaker: Cathy Galloway, RN, BSN, Owner, Galloway Consulting Group, LLC, Jefferson City, Missouri. Ms. Galloway is a former Department of Health and Senior Services Long-Term Care Surveyor with over ten years’ experience. While at DHSS, as the State Long-Term Care Surveyor Trainer, she developed and provided training for state surveyors. Additional DHSS experience includes direct supervision of LTC surveyors and the Central Office Compliance and Regulation Unit.
