Your Decisions Matter! Beginning the Conversation of Advance Care Planning

CE Approval Pending: NHA (3.0 hours; Administrative)
Program: Registration 8:30 a.m., Program 9 – 12:15 p.m. (15 minute break)

Purpose:

When Benjamin Franklin spoke his famous quote “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes” back in 1789, little did he know it would take 200 years – and an act of congress – before the Patient Self-Determination Act would get passed.

Are you over the age of 18? It’s time to complete your Durable Power of Attorney, DPOA, for Healthcare.  Come learn what all the fuss is about: your rights and choices for making health care decisions, selecting a durable power of attorney and what this all really means. We will explain options available to ensure your health care preferences are followed and answer your questions regarding confusing legal terms and medical treatments. Whether this is your first healthcare directive, you need to update an existing one, or just want to review your current Healthcare Directive, join us to simplify this often confusing topic and learn what you need to ensure you and your loved ones receive the care you desire.

It’s our goal is to ensure that everyone’s future healthcare choices are known and protected regardless of age or health status, especially  if a person is ever unable to tell their provider what they want.

Speaker: Judy Waechter, RN CRRN, Regional Director of Business Development, Kansas City & Butler, Missouri and Lenexa & Garnett, Kansas

Purpose:

Every day healthcare providers face the difficult task of sharing bad news with patients and their loved ones.  The reality is that most have been self-taught and report feeling inadequately trained for these discussions. Despite the challenge inherent in communicating bad news of any sort, our patients deserve professionals who are skilled in participating in difficult discussions.  Join us to learn skills for providers and patients and families to overcome this challenge.
