Day 1
Understanding the Influence of Genetics and Environment throughout the Lifespan
Target Audience: Nursing Home Administrators, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Social Workers, Activity Directors, Occupational and Physical Therapist, Dietary

CE Approved: Nursing Home Administrators (6 administrative hours)

Program: Registration 8:30 a.m., Program 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Lunch 12 – 1 p.m.

Purpose: To discuss toxic parents, defense mechanisms, psychosis with different mood disorders and anxiety disorders, both including detail about the diagnosis and treatment, late life psychiatric illnesses, causes and behaviors behind dementia diagnose.

Objectives
1. Discuss toxic parents, defense mechanisms, psychosis with different mood disorders and anxiety disorders.
2. Analyze the diagnosis and treatment of disorders.
3. Identify the causes and behaviors behind dementia diagnose.

Speaker: Glenna C. Burton, MD, PH. D is a psychiatrist with more than 40 years’ experience in psychiatry. Dr. Glenna Burton has worked with patients daily, individually as well as within groups, for both inpatient and outpatient settings. She taught more than 15 years at the University of Missouri in Columbia, in addition to having a private practice in psychiatry for decades. She has received awards and recognition for her achievements in psychiatry. Dr. Glenna Burton received teaching awards from psychiatry residents and medical students. She received the Laughlin Fellowship Award, and was also selected as one of the top 10 residents in psychiatry in North America during her residency.

Day 2
OSHA: Safety and Health Management
Target Audience: Nursing Home Administrators, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Social Workers, Activity Directors, Occupational and Physical Therapist, Dietary

CE Approved: Nursing Home Administrators (3 administrative hours)

Program: Registration 8:30 a.m., Program 9 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (includes 15 minute break) Lunch 12:15 – 1:15 p.m.

Purpose: To understand how to implement an effective Safety and Health Management System within a respective long-term care community. OSHA compliance and hazard indemnification will also be discussed.

Objectives
1. Develop the tools necessary to implement a Safety and Health Management System.
2. Discuss how to implement OSHA site-specific programs.
3. Identify and correct hazards in the long-term care community.

Speaker: Daniel Stark, CIH, Assistant Director/Program Manager, Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Jefferson City, Missouri

Alcohol Abuse in Long-Term Care
Target Audience: Nursing Home Administrators, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Social Workers, Activity Directors, Occupational and Physical Therapist, Dietary

CE Approved: Nursing Home Administrators (3 administrative hours)

Program: Program 1:15 – 4:30 (includes 15-minute break)

Purpose: to review changes in resident characteristics over the past decades and explore how these changes ae leading to management of residents with a variety of problems not previously seen in long-term care. A particular focus will be on developing plans of care for residents with active alcoholism; as well as those who are in treatment.

Objectives
1. Discuss alcohol in long-term care.
2. Discuss ways of handling alcoholics in long-term care.
3. Identify solutions and hope for both our residents as well as our staff.
