Target Audience: NHA, RN, LPN, AD, OT, PT, RD/DTR, SW
CE Approved: NHA (5 hours; Patient Care)
Program: Registration 8:30 a.m., Program 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. , Lunch 12 – 1 p.m.

Purpose:  Introduce Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) and its evidence-base as a new therapy for individuals with mild to moderate dementia. Discuss the key principles of CST and how to apply them. Demonstrate its use in a standardized, person-centered, and effective way.

1.  Define dementia and geriatric syndromes.
2.  Define the key psychosocial approaches to dementia.
3.  Describe the evidence-base that supports CST.
4.  Identify who is appropriate for CST.
5.  Demonstrate the use of the key features and principles of CST.
6.  Develop a plan of facilitating CST group and individual sessions.
7.  Describe how to set goals and evaluate CST for effectiveness.
8.  Describe the documentation and billing process for CST.
