Target Audience: Nursing Home Administrators, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, Social Workers, Activity Directors, Occupational and Physical Therapist, Dietary
CE Approved: Nursing Home Administrators (5 administrative hours)
Program: Registration 8:30 a.m., Program 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Lunch 12 – 1 p.m.
Purpose: To explore compassion fatigue and provide proven strategies to help us address this unique stress and maintain a balance in your life. Compassion fatigue, also known as Vicarious Trauma, is a condition characterized by a lessening of compassion over time. It is common in trauma victims and individuals that work in a helping profession. This program will give you and your staff the tools to succeed in this challenging health care environment.
1. Outline the cause and impact of compassion fatigue on individuals and the workplace.
2. Complete the Pro-Quol, Quality of Life Scale and determine how this score relates to compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue and burnout.
3. Identify areas that impact work and life balance.
4. Create a blueprint for beginning a journey to wellness and wholeness.
Speaker: Sharon McGloin, MSOD, MS, CTRS, President and Owner, Experiential Alternatives, Kansas City, Missouri. Sharon is also an Adjunct Professor at Avila University in Kansas City and teaches the undergraduate and graduate course on Leadership, as well as, Northwest Missouri State University where she teaches the Trends and Issues in Therapeutic Recreation class. Sharon holds a Master degree from the University of Missouri in Recreation and Park Administration with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation and is Nationally Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Sharon also holds a Masters in Organization Development Psychology from Avila University in Kansas City. Sharon is also a Certified Life Coach and has a small coaching practice helping individuals reimagine their lives. Sharon is a lifetime learner and enjoys being a catalyst for others growth and learning.
